Today’s Book of the Day is Boundless Leadership written by Joe Loizzo and Elazar Aslan, and published in 2021 by Shambala Publications. The book is a Gold Nautilus Book Award Winner.
Joe Loizzo, MD, Ph.D., is a well-known psychiatrist, researcher, and meditation scholar-teacher who bring together neuroscience and contemplative practice to help people cultivate personal well-being, interpersonal compassion, and transformational leadership. He is an assistant professor at Weill-Cornell Medical College and founder of the educational non-profit Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science, his other books include Sustainable Happiness and Advances in Contemplative Psychotherapy.
Elazar Aslan, MBA, PCC is an executive advisor, speaker, entrepreneur, and CEO of Caterfly Solutions. After a successful career as a business executive, he became a professional coach over a decade ago, bringing his meditative practice and leadership principles to corporations including Chase, D&B, MasterCard, American Express, and ADP, as well as hyper-growth start-ups.
I decided to read Boundless Leadership as I share with the authors the fact of having run my own business and using neuroscience and meditation in my coaching practice.
The book is an essential tool to give readers a practical and effective way to find the core meaning in their work by getting rid of the limiting factors in their lives, unleashing their full potential, and inspiring their entire businesses and working places with meditation, commitment, resilience, compassion, and renewed confidence.
The authors make an excellent job of presenting a theory of leadership based on a science-backed holistic approach. A modern, compassionate leadership that discovers, develops, and uses the specific characteristics of one’s mind, heart, and body to foster well-being, clarity, and fearlessness in the working environments they are managing.
The different sections of the book describe several methods to promote a transformational approach to leadership that is based on the latest and most effective tools developed through research in neuroscience.
These scientific discoveries are then mixed with a contemplative practice of meditation as well as practical applications so as to help the reader in growing awareness, clarity, and commitment. All this has the goal to promote an enhanced capacity to find one’s intentions and goals, take better decisions, and develop responsibility, accountability, and collaboration.
Boundless Leadership also studies remote work, giving some insightful advice to keep momentum, raise engagement, and grow happiness in this new way of working.
I have found this book an extraordinary example of what an emotionally intelligent leader could do to transform his/her business.
It gives a scientific approach that allows leaders to become who they really are by also remaining caring, compassionate, and highly effective. The book represents a bold statement of what a business should be, today.
Boundless Leadership is the book that was missing, as it redefines the meaning of a true leader: a person who is true to him/herself, mindful, compassionate, aware, but also effective. The book depicts a reality made not by leaders, but also by the teams they lead, by the people who will benefit from this emotionally aware method.
